Chateau overlooking the Loire. The 15th century Château de Montsoreau which overlooks the river Loire, was made famous by Alexandre Dumas's novel Dame de Montsoreau.Built by Jean de Chambes, advisor to king Charles VII, the architecture of the château is characterised by its contrasts, employing both Medieval rigour and Renaissance fun in its design. A fortress-residence, the building was originally four-sided, flanked by four square towers and surrounded by deep moats fed from the Loire. After major restoration work, a visit of the chateau now includes an audio-visual tour on the theme of the Loire, with activities for all the family.
